FORTIFIED WINE

Penfolds has a long tradition of fortified wine production, dating back to the mid-1800s. Many of these beautifully concentrated and complex wines are now living history, with material stretching back decades. The Penfolds Fortified range comprises: Club, Club Reserve Classic Tawny, Grandfather Rare Tawny and Penfolds Great Grandfather Rare Tawny and the special release 50 Year Old Rare Tawny.

FATHER GRAND TAWNY

COLOUR:

Deep tawny with a red hue and distinctive yellow green edge.

 

NOSE:

Vibrant and fresh with concentrated barrel aged characters balanced by intense fruit.

 

PALATE:

The palate is the most elegant of the Penfolds tawny portfolio being soft, round, and intense with fruit, oak and maturation characters all in harmony. The unique Penfolds fortifying spirit combines with all the age complexity to give a long, lingering and intense finish that is clean and tight.

GRANDFATHER RARE TAWNY

COLOUR:

Deep amber - mahogany in colour with the green gold tinges indicative of great age.

 

NOSE:

The nose is extremely complex and fragrant, possessing an array of nutty, vanillin, aged characters melding seamlessly with hints of raisined fruit, malt and lifted spirit.

 

PALATE:

The palate effortlessly displays the famed attributes of great Tawny; luscious, rich and full flavoured with mouthfilling viscosity and a slightly dry finish. Intense raisined fruit, walnut and toffee flavours harmonise with subtle vanillin oak.

GREAT GRANDFATHER RARE TAWNY

COLOUR:

An extremely dark mahogany brown with an intense olive green tinge.

 

NOSE:

The nose is extremely intense and complex with raisined fruit, toffee and malt aromas long since integrated with nutty aged rancio, vanillin oak and subtle spirit.

 

PALATE:

The palate clearly demonstrates its great age and quality with incredible intensity of flavour, viscosity and length matched to elegance and finesse. The wine has a perfect harmony of rich developed fruit flavours, aged rancio complexity and a slightly drying finish.
